3 Heart Healthy Tips

February is American Heart Month. In order to keep our heart healthy here are 3 tips you can implement now to keep your heart and body healthy and strong.

  1. Nutrition- fruits, veggies, healthy fats, whole grains and protein should be in your diet. Stick to eating un-proceeded foods (limiting fast food and junk food). Make sure to eat a wide variety of colors of fruits and veggies so you can get different nutrients into your body. Some ideas of what to eat: nuts, fish, oatmeal, berries, and leafy greens are excellent for your heart and body.
  2. Exercise-if you are not currently exercising, start by doing 10-15 minutes of cardiovascular exercise then work up to 30 minutes 2-3 days per week. Cardiovascular exercise helps the cardiovascular system get healthy and stay healthy (lungs and heart). If you are currently exercising try adding in intervals to your cardio routine to help your heart get stronger.
  3. Supplements-If you don’t like fish you are in luck. Take an Omega 3 supplement daily to help you get your daily intake of omega-3’s. The other supplement that can help make your heart healthy is Co-Q10. CoQ10, is an enzyme that the body naturally produces to facilitate important functions including electron transport and blood pressure regulation. Sometimes, we need a supplement of Co-Q10 to help keep our hearth healthy. Some other supplements that can help with heart health is garlic and Vitamin B.
