Cardio will make you fat!
WHAT! Cardio will make you fat…..no it won’t, I just wanted to get your attention. This post is about cardio and weight lifting and how you can get the body you want by including both forms of exercise.
I will tell you that logging all those miles on the treadmill will get you no where……are you still there? Yup, I said it, 6 days a week of cardio at 30-60 minutes a time is a WASTE!
What does work is lifting weights and high intensity cardio intervals. The more muscle you have, the less fat you have. AND the more muscle you have the more fat your body will burn at rest.
So, your probably asking what kind of cardio should I be doing………….intervals. 2-3 days of 20 minutes of interval training will be more then enough to help you lose weight combined with your 2-3 days of strength training.
Here is an example of what kind of cardio interval you can do: walk or run at a steady pace for 90 seconds, walk or run faster (you shouldn’t be able to talk much) for 30 seconds. Repeat 6 times. Include a warm-up and cool-down and your done!
If you are a beginner work into the intervals. Start slow and build up.
If you are short on time, like I usually am, then you can do cardio intervals between your strength sets and you get cardio and strength training done all in 20-30 minutes!! Here’s an example: squats on the bosu, dead lift, jump squats(thats your cardio interval). If you do this you are only “exercising” 3 days a week!
If you are a cardio junkie, I dare you to try this….you will see results.
So now all you have to do is figure out what to do with all this time I just saved you!
