Healthy Holiday Eats

It is almost Christmas and with holiday parties and gatherings happening everywhere I thought it would be a good time to chat about what healthy, yet yummy, foods you can bring to all your parties and gatherings.  The list below are all ideas that have been tested by adults and kids!  So, pick the one you think sounds the best and see everyone at your next party devour it!

  1. Cheese and bread plate-pick 5 cheeses (blue, soft, hard, tangy and chedder)  Most foodies won’t tell you to include cheddar but I always like to include a cheese that most people know and like just in case some one does not like the other cheese’s on the cheese plate.  Include fruit like dried figs, pears, and apple slices.  For bread I like to include small slices of a crusty french bread and some crackers.  This is a great dish to bring because the fat in the cheese will satisfy you even after  a few slices.
  2. Salad-when you tell people to bring a salad to a gathering people usually think, “how boring”.  Why not make it fun and delicious.  Check out one of these delicious salad recipes: https://www.pinterest.com/lmglamm/eats-and-drinks/
  3. Appetizer-choose an appetizer with protein in it, like roasted shrimp.  It looks very elegant, but is super easy to make and transport plus it is very low in calories and high in protein!!
  4. Dessert-pretzels dunked in chocolate are always delicious.  They have the whole sweet/salty thing AND they are the easiest treat to make.  Just melt chocolate and dip the pretzels in the chocolate.  Let the chocolate harden.  Enjoy!

I hope these ideas help you decide what to bring to your next holiday party.  Healthy does not have to be boring!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season!
