Weekend Getaway
Weekend Getaway
Are you ready to get out of this cold and snow? I have the perfect weekend getaway for you! If you are looking for sun, sand and warmth Marco Island has it all including pina colada’s and key lime pie 🙂 YUM!
We escaped to Marco Island this winter for a long weekend and it was so relaxing. Here are our family recommendations for restaurants and things to do on Marco Island Florida.
We always use VRBO when we are traveling. We prefer to rent a condo or house then staying in a hotel. Plus, we have always had good luck with using VRBO. Marco Island has 2 hotels on the beach, JW Marriot and The Hilton. Here is the house we stayed at from a Friday to a Monday
Usually when we go on vacation we have a plan as to what we are going to do and what sights we want to see. This time since we were just going to a weekend we decided to not plan anything and just hang out on Marco Island. It was a very relaxing weekend!! I highly recommend it.
For breakfast we always go to NeNe’s. It has a big menu but everything on the menu is delicious. It is open for breakfast and lunch. During high season it is open for supper. NeNe’s is a breakfast MUST.
If you are looking for a healthier lunch option check out Summer Day Market and Cafe. They have large variety of smoothies and jucies. They also have fresh made wraps, sandwiches and a salad bar.
Most of the restaurants on Marco Island have amazing happy hour deals. If you want happy hour deals and to see the sunset check out The Hilton and CJ’s on the bay. At the Hilton make sure to get a key lime pina colada!!
Other restaurant recommendations: Joey’s (for pizza and pasta), Marco Prime (great HH too), Lee Be Fish, Snook Inn (for dolphin watching and drinks), Mango’s Dockside.
For your morning joe or afternoon pick me up check out Wake up Marco, Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts
Recommendations on things to do on Marco Island: the #1 reason we go to Marco Island is the beaches. They are clean and beautiful. There are many different places to park if you are not close enough to walk. If you can walk to the beach I recommend that, as parking is between $8.00-12.00 per day. Tiger tale beach has public restrooms, chairs/umbrellas to rent as well as concessions.
When you get bored of the beach (can you ever get bored of the beach??) Check out Marco Garden and Golf. It is an 18 hole mini golf course that is fun for the whole family. This is a great activity to do in the evening too.
Make sure to catch the fire dancer show at JW Marriot. It is held after sunset every night. It is free to watch. You can sit on the beach or in their beach restaurant.
If you are visiting Marco Island FL for longer then a weekend I highly recommend one or more of the following activities: a dolphin cruise, a sunset cruise, renting a boat to explore the island, visit Key West FL on the Key West Express, shopping in Naples on 5th Avenue (great restaurants too).
I hope your family enjoys Marco Island FL as much as we do!
